openSPOT4 Pro

The openSPOT4 Pro, CQutie, is a bridge between the FT-5DR and several digital networks. Profiles are kept separate by purpose so a working route can be reproduced rather than rediscovered by trial and error.

CQutie is a bridge, not a black box.

Portable linked operation

The hotspot is infrastructure in miniature, not the reason to carry the radio.

The primary radio-side role

The openSPOT4 Pro is the physical-radio hotspot interface for the Yaesu FT-5DR and C4FM. I do not own or intend to add a dedicated DMR radio; DMR is used through cross-mode when it serves the operating goal.

Keep embedded data deliberate.

Settings affecting in-band GPS and APRS must be reviewed carefully because blocking in-band data can also block the FT-5DR position information intended for the network. The preferred public APRS identity remains K6RCS-7 rather than a generic digital-mode suffix.

SharkRF Link is the preferred public entry point for opening the openSPOT4 web interface when the browser device and hotspot are on the same network. The device UID belongs in your browser, not on this website; the same goes for passwords, API keys, hotspot security values and local management addresses.

If ordinary name discovery fails, the USB serial console remains a recovery and troubleshooting path for network settings and diagnostics. That is useful operationally and blessedly uninteresting to random strangers on the internet.

Two handhelds sharing one hotspot

K6RCS and K6KEG use their own callsigns and, when assigned, their own network IDs. One OS4P has one current destination and one speaker at a time. Announce profile changes so both handheld operators know where the next call goes.

Test each handheld separately, confirm the outgoing identity in the hotspot log, and obtain a reply from a remote station. Nearby handhelds hearing each other directly is not proof that the network received either one. NXDN source 12924 remains Randall-only; Krista is not included in that profile.

Use DN for DMR, D-STAR and NXDN cross-mode. For the saved P25 profile, the FT-5DR field action is only the deviation change: set FM DEVIATION to WIDE before P25 operation and restore NARROW afterward. The network/profile setup is already saved.

Field profile controls

With SharkRF default controls, *A queries the current profile and *A1 through *A10 select profiles. The openSPOT reboots on a profile change, so wait for status/voice confirmation before transmitting. Use saved Quick Call buttons for DMR destinations inside a network profile; change profiles when the network or mode changes.

Confirmed Home QTH shortcuts

The saved Home QTH layout follows the supplied hotspot screenshot, left to right and top to bottom. Every entry is a Group Call.
